Patick Peltier has been upcycling clothing with hand embroidery under the moniker Bandulu for over a decade. His approach to fashion is inspired by the techniques of abstract expressionist artists' use of paint on a canvas but applied onto clothing using needle and thread. His gallery debut expands on this idea in the opposite way: canvases inspired by clothing. The work is referential to artists like Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline while at the same time being self-referential to his own medium. His multidisciplinary practice revolves around the ideas of waste, craft, consumerism and the unconscious while the death of the artisan and the rise of AI are themes explored through color, craft and pop culture references.
